Special K is owned by Kellanova (the United States, NYSE: K), which was separated from Kellanova on 2 October 2023.[1][2] Special K was founded in 1955 in the United States and was independent until 2023.
This ownership is reported in official statements but has not yet been matched to a regulatory filing.
Special K is a rice and wheat flake cereal launched in 1955, fortified with vitamins and sold for decades on weight management, most visibly through a two-week diet challenge advertised worldwide. Kellanova holds it outside the United States and Canada, where it belongs to WK Kellogg Co.
Mars agreed to acquire Kellanova for $83.50 per share in cash, which would add Pringles and Cheez-It to Mars Snacking and rank among the largest packaged food deals ever. The transaction required clearance in multiple jurisdictions.
