Diageo (LSE: DGE, NYSE: DEO) is a publicly listed company headquartered in London, United Kingdom that owns 23 consumer brands, and has 2 recorded transactions.[1]
Diageo was formed in 1997 by the merger of Guinness and Grand Metropolitan. It is the largest spirits company in the world, with a portfolio spanning Scotch whisky, vodka, gin, rum, tequila and stout.
Diageo bought Casamigos, the tequila founded by George Clooney, Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman, for $700 million up front and up to $300 million more on performance. The price for a four-year-old brand helped set off a wave of celebrity spirits deals.
General Mills bought Pillsbury from Diageo, roughly doubling its size. The Federal Trade Commission required the divestiture of Pillsbury's dessert and specialty products business to International Multifoods before clearing the deal.
