Quaker is owned by PepsiCo (the United States, NASDAQ: PEP), which acquired the brand on 2 August 2001 from Quaker Oats Company.[1][2] Before PepsiCo, Quaker was owned by Quaker Oats Company to 2001.[2]
Quaker is an oats and cereal brand whose trademark, registered in 1877, was the first for a breakfast cereal in the United States. The Quaker man on the packaging represents honesty rather than any connection to the Religious Society of Friends, which has objected to the use over the years.
PepsiCo acquired The Quaker Oats Company in an all-stock merger, primarily to obtain Gatorade, which gave it the leading position in sports drinks. The Federal Trade Commission cleared the deal after a split vote, with a consent order restricting distribution arrangements.
