Engadget is owned by Apollo (the United States, NYSE: APO), which acquired the brand on 1 September 2021.[1][2] Engadget was founded in 2004 in the United States and was independent until 2021.
Engadget is a consumer technology publication founded in 2004 by a writer who had just left Gizmodo, and it became one of the largest gadget sites of the blogging era. It came to Yahoo through AOL, which had bought its parent Weblogs Inc. in 2005.
Funds managed by Apollo Global Management acquired ninety per cent of Verizon Media, comprising Yahoo and AOL and their properties, in a deal valued at about $5 billion. Verizon retained the remaining ten per cent.
