Brand licensing
Permission to use a brand you do not own.
A brand licence lets one company use another company's brand, usually within a defined territory, product category and period, in exchange for a royalty. The licensee makes and sells the product; the licensor still owns the name.
This is why the same brand can appear to have two owners. Hershey makes and sells KitKat and Cadbury in the United States under licence: Nestlé and Mondelēz own those brands worldwide. A licence is not ownership, and confusing the two produces most of the wrong answers to "who owns this brand".
