About Gap

Gap sells denim and casual basics and defined American mainstream dress through the 1990s, when its khaki and pocket-tee advertising was ubiquitous. It has spent much of the period since trying to recover that cultural position. It was founded in San Francisco in 1969 selling Levi's jeans, and its name refers to the generation gap.
